Presentation of the project AS
Together with its partners the University of Ljubljana presented the project “AS – Archaeology for everyone. Reviving the Archaeological Park Simonov zaliv” which is co-financed under the EEA Financial Mechanism. Project partners are also IPPA, Arhej Ltd., the municipality of Izola and Gagarin – the partner from Iceland.
The project “AS – Archaeology for everyone” will improve accessibility of the heritage site and include it in the cultural and tourist offer of the area. The project will develop a programme and the infrastructure which will enable the archaeological park to be open throughout the year and thus establish its financial sustainability. When protecting the heritage site specific attention will be given to mosaics as the essential architectural segment of the archaeological architectural remains. Appropriate protective structures will be provided which will ensure long-term preservation of restored mosaics. For the purposes of relevant presentation the walls of the architectural remains of a Roman seaside villa “in situ” will be restored because this is the only way to properly present them to visitors and thus ensure proper interpretation. The expected results of the project: establishment of interpretive centre at the park, preserved and presented remains of villa and mosaics, establishment of the first underwater archaeological park, innovative digital and interactive solutions to enhance the empirical experiences of visitors and the inclusion of the park into the cultural and tourist offer. The project will benefit the local community, educational institutions at all levels, tourists, visitors with disabilities, interested individuals and the public, institutions in the field of cultural heritage.
